Age Concern B&NES; is organising a free dance taster day at the Guildhall on Thursday, August 12 between 1pm and 5pm.

Anyone aged over 55 is welcome to attend the event, which will feature tap, lindy hop, Argentinian tango, belly dancing and samba.

It is part of the charity’s Fit as a Fiddle project which is managed by Paula Smith, who said: “Dancing is an excellent way to stay active, keep fit and lift the spirits.

“You can improve your balance and help to prevent falls by improving your co-ordination.”

Consider it one of the enduring inanities of Albany: The New York State Legislature appears to be on the verge of approving same-sex marriage but still won’t budge on the matter of divorce. This state is in the forefront of the fight to allow gays and lesbians to marry, but won’t let anyone end a marriage without first being mauled by the state’s antiquated and punitive — and expensive — divorce laws.

New York is the only state without a no-fault divorce system. To end a marriage here, either both parties must agree, and submit to a one-year separation, or one must accuse the other of cruel and inhuman treatment, adultery or, conversely, refusal to have sex for a year. The frequent results are prolonged proceedings, heightened animosity and, worst of all, children forced to choose sides as the angry process unfolds.

In fact, a New Yorker who no longer loves his or her spouse can be held hostage to a bad marriage if the other partner refuses to take the separation route. It happens.

The reasons New York clings to this terrible system are multiple. The Catholic Church opposes the change, as does the New York Chapter of the National Organization for Women. And, while some divorce lawyers are aggressively pushing for no-fault laws, the fact is that the current system fattens their bank accounts.

The State Legislature has long been beholden to the New York Trial Lawyers Association, and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver is, himself, a member of a New York City personal injury law firm. New York State laws are very kind to lawyers.

We understand the church’s objections; it has a legitimate point of view: A marriage is not a handshake deal. It’s meant to be a solemn commitment. But the church also opposes gay marriage and that isn’t stopping legislators from acting.

Sometimes marriages are mistaken. People grow apart. Yes, it’s possible that strict divorce laws can push partners to bridge their differences, but they can also impoverish them or force them to stay in a marriage of misery. There are better ways, and 49 other states offer possibilities.

When extinguishing the overthrow, first close the lid of the charcoal grill so that you smother the fire by depriving it of oxygen. Once the charcoal has cooled a bit, use long handled tongs to safely transfer the charcoal into a metal container, you may even want to oust them in water first, or simultaneously immerse them in water to kill off burning embers.

A really important thing for your charcoal grill to have is good, strong sturdy legs ? you don?t want your dinner toppling over into the dirt! And you certainly don’t want it falling over and burning people or property. You also want a cooking surface that?s big enough for your needs ? are you cooking for one or two? Or do you need enough space to cook for a veritable picnic full of people?

You must also, of course, pick up some charcoal.

UBLC wants to help the consumer aim their stones strategically at the spots that will drop the greedy financial giants.

According to Ms. Beck, UBLC has established a means-based policy for establishing fees on both a client-by-client and circumstance-by-circumstance basis. UBLC will also help clients by financing their legal fees, free of charge. “If we could do all the legal work pro bono, we would in many cases. Unfortunately, that is not possible. The UBLC law firm would also go broke in the process,” said Ms. Beck.

Some so-called couple?s therapists treat couples the same way they treat individuals, thus leading to some serious counseling problems. Individual therapists work to discover the wants and needs of the individual. Whenever a couple has incompatible needs and wants there is a danger that the counselor who was trained as an individual therapist will take sides. It?s this incompatibility that caused the couple to seek a marriage counselor in the first place.
